How Can I Keep My Curtains Clean
The simplest method is to use a vacuum cleaner to remove surface dust. However, this does not remove mildew, deeply embedded particles, pesky dust mites and germs.
Washing is the next best method. Beware that not all curtains can be hand-washed. You will need to find out the type of material your curtain is made of and abide by the washing instructions of the manufacturer. You will also need a washing machine with a capacity large enough for the curtains.
Washing it yourself also entails taking the curtains down and putting it back after washing. This is not easy as curtains are bulky and involves working at height which can be risky if you are not used to working with ladders.
The best method is dry cleaning. Instead of using water, dry cleaning involves the use of a chemical solvent in a specialised dry cleaning machine. It is very effective in removing oil and dirt as well as germs and bacteria. The solvent is gentle on fabric and reduces damage and discolouration in the cleaning cycle. This process is usually carried out by professionals.
